I wanted to take a moment to explain the packaging choice, because your concern is totally valid, and we get it. Sustainability has always been a core value of ours – we started out using completely plastic-free packaging, wrapping each weight in layers of recycled paper and cardboard. The reality is that lead, while perfect for diving due to its density and weight is a very soft metal and too many of the weights were arriving damaged despite our best efforts using plastic free packaging. As you can imagine this is not ideal for the customer or us as a small buisness.
We’ve recently had to make the difficult decision to use more protective packaging – including some plastic (which is made out of 50% of recycled material and the plastic itself can be recycled with bags at large supermarkets) – to ensure the weights arrive safely. It’s not a perfect solution, and it’s not one we’re content with long-term.
